Explore Our Ultrasound Services

Please arrive 10 minutes prior to your appointment to allow time for check-in and preparation.

General Ultrasound

Scans offered:​

Abdomen • Pelvis • Renal • Hernia • Elastography

 For abdominal scans, please fast for 6 hours before your appointment (water only).


For pelvic scans, empty your bladder 1 hour before your appointment, then drink about 800 ml of water so you arrive with a full bladder.

If both abdominal and pelvic scans are scheduled together, fast for 6 hours and arrive with a full bladder.


Most general scans take around 30 minutes, except combined abdomen and pelvic studies, which may take up to 45 minutes.

We also perform various paediatric examinations. To book, please call the practice so a Sonographer can review your referral to ensure the correct appointment is made.

Musculoskeletal (MSK) Ultrasound

Scans offered:​

Shoulder • Elbow • Wrist and Hand • Thumb and Fingers • Hip and Thigh • Knee • Calf, Achilles, and Ankle • Foot and Plantar Fascia • Toes • Rheumatology assessment • Peripheral nerve assessment

Real-time assessment of muscles, tendons, ligaments, and joints to help diagnose injury, pain, or restricted movement.

 

Most MSK scans take around 30 minutes, except rheumatology referrals which may take up to an hour. No preparation is required.

ACC ultrasounds are free if you have a valid community service card. Please bring it on the day of your appointment.

Scans offered:​

Dating •  Nuchal Translucency Screening  •  Anatomy  • Growth  •   Doppler assessment

First-trimester scans (dating and nuchal) require a full bladder. Empty your bladder one hour before your appointment, then drink about 800 ml of water so you arrive with a full bladder.

 

Most pregnancy scans take around 30 minutes, though anatomy scans may take slightly longer depending on the baby’s position.

Small part ultrasound

Scans offered:​

Thyroid • Salivary glands • Scrotal  / Testicular • Groin  • Soft tissue lumps • Foreign body localisation

High-resolution ultrasound imaging used to assess superficial organs and soft-tissue structures. Small parts ultrasound helps evaluate lumps, swelling, pain, or palpable abnormalities with precision and clarity. Most small parts scans take approximately 30 minutes, depending on the area being examined. No preparation is required unless otherwise advised.

Vascular Ultrasound

Scans offered:​

Upper Limb DVT   •   Lower Limb DVT   •   Venous Mapping   •   AAA Surveillance • Carotid arteries

Specialised imaging to assess circulation and detect vascular conditions such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Vascular scans take around 30 minutes for one limb, or up to 45 minutes for both.

 

No preparation is required.

To make accessing your ultrasound images and reports simple and secure, Sono Suite provides an online patient portal. The portal allows patients and referring clinicians to view images and reports online once they are available.

During Your Ultrasound

Advanced Ultrasound Technology

Sono Suite uses modern and dedicated ultrasound systems to provide a purpose fit approach to each examination.

 

We use the GE Voluson E22 with a RAB7 XDclear transducer utilising 3D technology to provide exceptionally clear, high-resolution women's health imaging. 

For our dedicated sports medicine examinations, we use the GE Logiq E10s with both an ML4-20 linear transducer and 24MHz high frequency "hockey stick", both of which enable the visualisation of exceptionally small structures. 

All imaging is performed by experienced professionals, with equipment selected to support accuracy, comfort, and clinical reliability.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes. All ultrasounds require a referral from your GP, midwife, specialist, or physiotherapist. You can upload your referral when booking online or bring it with you on the day of your appointment.

  • For abdominal ultrasounds, please avoid food and drink (except water) for 6 hours before your appointment. You may take any prescribed medications.
    If you have a pelvic scan, please empty your bladder 1 hour before your appointment, then drink about 800 ml of water so you arrive with a full bladder.
    If you have any concerns about preparation, please contact us to speak with one of our clinical staff.

  • That’s okay. If our clinical team requires more information, they will contact you. You can also reach out to us directly, and we’ll help confirm the correct scan before your appointment.

  • Yes. Ultrasound uses sound waves, not radiation. It is considered safe for both mother and baby and is widely used to assess your baby’s growth and well-being.

  • Yes. In most cases, we can perform multiple scans during the same appointment. Please mention this when booking so adequate time can be allocated.

  • In most cases, appointments are available within a few days, and urgent referrals are prioritised whenever possible. If you would like to arrange your scan or confirm availability, please contact our team or book online.

  • You’ll be able to access your images via our secure online portal (link to be provided once active). Your images are available immediately after your appointment, and your results will be visible once your referrer has reviewed them.
